Just when you
thought you had seen your last election ad of the year, the Software
Council Board of Directors election is set to begin. But there are
no negative ads or dirt to scoop in this election. After taking
recommendations from the membership and individual members expressing
interest, this year's nominating committee has selected an impressive
slate of candidates for the open seats of this 2003 Board of Directors
election.
The Software
Council's Board of Directors consists of seventeen members: one
representative from each of the four chapters and thirteen elected
members. Elected Board members serve two-year terms up to a maximum
of three terms and this year we have six seats up for election.
To ensure that the Board continues to be representative of the industry
it serves, our charter allows no more than one-third of the elected
seats to be held by associate members representing the supporting
service providers. Of the six seats in this election, at least four
positions must be filled by industry members.
To make it even
easier than ever for you to vote, this year members will be able
to vote via an electronic mail ballot. Members, please watch your
email or fax around November 8, 2002, and get your votes in by the
November 22, 2002 election deadline.
This is also
a great time of year to extend our appreciation to a very important
Board member who will be leaving at the end of this year. On behalf
of the executive committee, I'd like to recognize and appreciate
the indomitable efforts of Jerry Skillet, our 2002 Chairman of the
Board. For the past seven years, Jerry has diligently served on
the Board of Directors. He stepped in and invested an enormous amount
of time and effort to promote the goals and ensure the success of
the Council. Jerry, I extend my personal thanks to you; you're a
tough act to follow.
While I'm on
the subject of giving thanks, please join me in recognizing the
tireless efforts and dedication of the entire Software Council staff
and each of our volunteers who help promote and facilitate the success
of Southern California's information technology community.
