A Letter from the Executive Director
By Richard Koffler, CEO, Koffler Ventures

The our Members, Sponsors and Friends,

It’s been 12 months since I stepped in to become the Software Council’s executive director, and as I approach my voluntary retirement from the position later this year, I want to give you a thumbnail status report:

The Software Council is financially sound, our educational and networking programs are strong and getting even better, our membership is growing again after a brutal post-bubble contraction, the Software Industry Awards in February exceeded everyone’s quality and attendance highest expectations, and our sponsors continue finding that the Software Council is an exceptional platform to reach their audience of software industry decision-makers. All told, we’re rocking!

During the past 12 months we launched excellent new programs, including two Software Executive's Roundtables, one in Los Angeles and one in Orange County, and T-SIG, our technology special interest group which started in Los Angeles and will soon open in Orange County. Committee volunteers are always welcome (contact Catrina Gruver catrina@scsc.org).

Save the date! VentureNet 2003 is scheduled for September 2-3 at the gorgeous St. Regis Monarch Spa & Resort in Dana Point. Thanks to the support from our generous sponsors – Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, Deloitte & Touche, Palomar Ventures, CJ Patrick Co., and Advanced Media – we expect record turnout to what has become Southern California’s premier capital conference for the software industry and one of the best networking events of the year. Our website is open for submitting business plans, and we still have available a handful of sponsorship opportunities (contact Catrina Gruver catrina@scsc.org).

Finally, a note of change. After holding our own against the inexorable forces of inflation, we are adjusting our prices slightly. Starting June 1 our dinner events will cost $35 for Software Council members, $60 for non-members; breakfast events will cost $20 for members, $40 for non-members. This will allow us to cover our expenses for facilities and meals. To compare, the registration fee for the first Software Council event held 11 years ago was $35.
