Outsourcing Position Survey

We have completed draft 1 of the Outsourcing (Offshoring) position paper. We thank those of you who participated in the survey, and want to give members of our community another opportunity to provide input:

Based on the first round of responses, the overall conclusion is that whatever the impact of offshoring on the U.S. economy, most of the SCSC community views offshoring as a fact of life and the question is when and how, not whether, to offshore.

Click here if you haven't taken the original survey and want to participate.

1. If you disagree with this initial conclusion and wish to comment, please do so below.

2. If you have any input on protection of intellectual property that is sent offshore, including any practices that you (or someone that you know well) have used/are using that provides some degree of protection, please discuss this below:

The Software Council is writing a position paper on offshore outsourcing, and we would like your input. Please answer the questions below and provide your name and company, so that we may incorporate your feedback. All information will be kept confidential, and will only be included as part of general statistical research (no names mentioned). You may answer as thoroughly or briefly as you choose. We have also provided an opportunity to include your phone number if you are willing to conduct a follow-up interview by phone.

1. Have you (or one of your clients) outsourced internationally? (Please specify if it is a client in your answer.)

2. If not, was it considered? What was the nature of project that was considered and why was that particular decision reached?

3. If yes, what was the nature of the project? What was the scope of the project (e.g., number of offshore people involved, dollar value?)

4. Did the outcome of the project meet your expectations? How/how not? Why/Why not?

5. Are you planning on outsourcing internationally in the future? Why/why not? If so, describe the nature of the project.

6. If you are planning to outsource internationally, where will you base the project? Why there?

Thank you for your responses.
