Wireless Technology: Looking to the Future

What are the opportunities in wireless? How are people making money and getting paid today? What are the trends for the future? An exciting group of panelists from Qualcomm, Kyocera, and PRTM will get to the heart of these issues. They will discuss future trends and opportunities in the business world (m-commence) above and beyond games and ring tones.

The panel will review a case study, today's trends and how money is being made in the areas of application development opportunities, application development platforms, licensing and payment, the carrier markets, and the hand set markets.

About the Speakers

Anu Murty, Product Manager, BREW™ Developer Relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services of QUALCOMM Incorporated
Anu Murty is a product manager in BREW™ Developer Relations for QUALCOMM Internet Services (QIS). QIS is the QUALCOMM division chartered with driving development of next-generation wireless data applications and services, and is responsible for QUALCOMM's BREW solution, a complete technical and business system for wireless devices; QChat™, a push-to-talk VoIP technology for 3G CDMA networks; and Eudora® email software.

Murty is responsible for various wireless market segments, specializing in m-commerce application development. Before joining QUALCOMM in 2001, Murty spent six years at Intel Corporation in Santa Clara, Calif., Munich, Germany, and Hong Kong. She began her career in microprocessor and chipset design engineering and transitioned into product marketing and management, responsible for desktop platforms as well as third-party software development in the U.S., Asia and Europe.

Murty holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mitch Beaumont, Principal of PRTM
Mitch Beaumont is a Principal with PRTM, a global management consulting firm to technology industry, and is based in the firm's Costa Mesa office. Mitch has worked with high technology companies in wireless communications, consumer electronics, automotive, and aerospace industries. His expertise includes go-to-market strategy formulation, technology strategy development, product management, product development, program management, and economic modeling. Prior to joining PRTM, Mitch held product management and engineering management positions at a wireless consumer electronics start-up where he led the development of several wireless data products and core technologies. Mitch is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering and the University of Southern California with an MS Degree in Electrical Engineering. He received an MBA Degree with a concentration in entrepreneurial operations and finance from The Anderson School at UCLA.

Hans Wichary, Sr. Manager, Kyocera Wireless Corp of Kyocera
Hans Wichary (pronounced Vee-shah-ree) has been a part of Kyocera Wireless since Kyocera purchased Qualcomm’s CDMA handset division in 2000. He currently leads Business Development for the Converged Devices Business Segment, which is responsible for the development and commercial deployment of the award-winning QCP 6035 and the soon-to-be released CDMA 1x compatible 7135 smartphone. Mr. Wichary has been closely involved with CDMA voice and data products since joining Qualcomm in 1998. He is a vocal advocate of combining wireless voice, data, and computing technologies for business uses and has worked closely with carriers, application developers, and Fortune 500 businesses to deliver business-relevant devices to market. Mr. Wichary holds a degree in Economics from Stanford University. The answers to the three most frequently asked questions he is asked are: Yes, 6’9” and Stanford University. He resides in his hometown of San Diego with his wife
and two children.
