About the Panelists

Bernie Cowens, Vice President of Worldwide IS and Vice President of Security Services, Rainbow Tecnologies
Mr. Cowens is known for his ability to translate complex technology into durable business solutions. As Vice President of Worldwide IS, Bernie is charged with aligning Rainbow's global information technology investments with both corporate and business unit goals. As Vice President of Security Services, Bernie Cowens leads Rainbow's professional services in helping Fortune-class clients transition their business processes to the Internet while protecting their data. Bernie is a computer and information security expert with over 20 years experience in developing and implementing information security systems for government and the private sector. His areas of expertise include enterprise security and risk assessments, security architecture and design, intrusion detection, incident response, forensics, PKI issues, electronic commerce, digital signatures, security policy development and implementation, disaster recovery and continuity planning, and developing functional requirements from federal, state and local mandates (i.e., HIPAA, GLBA, SB 1836/AB 700, Privacy Act). A former military officer, Bernie joined Rainbow Technologies in 2000 and initially lead the security consulting services division of their Spectria business unit.Bernie graduated from the University of Maryland and has a masters degree in management information systems.

Powell Hamilton - West Coast security specialist, Global Risk Management Services group, PricewaterhouseCoopers
Powell Hamilton is a Senior Manager in the security and privacy practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is based in Los Angeles. Powell has over 16 years of experience in information systems and programming. He has participated in numerous security evaluations, including system penetration studies, and has helped leading companies to address their enterprise security architecture concerns. Powell is a frequent speaker on the subject of (a) strategic security strategies and design, (b) enterprise security architecture development (c) risk analysis and system assessment, and (d) intrusion and incident response.

Mr. Hamilton was previously at Epoch Networks (one of the founders), where he managed four departments: Systems Administration, Product Development, System Security and Emerging Technologies. Prior to Epoch, Mr. Hamilton was employed at Rockwell International World Headquarters where he served as the company's Senior Systems Analyst. In addition to his duties as Rockwell's Cray Supercomputer Administrator, he also established evaluation teams to analyze products and write white papers, which directed the systems configuration for Rockwell and its business units on an enterprise-wide level.

George Kurtz, CEO of Foundstone (and author of a pretty famous book on computer security)
George Kurtz is chief executive officer and co-founder of Foundstone, a global information security software, services and education provider employing one of the world’s preeminent team of strategic security experts. Foundstone empowers large enterprises, including government agencies and Fortune 1000 customers to continuously and measurably manage and mitigate risk while protecting the most important digital assets and their customers’ private information from critical threats. Gabrielle Wirth, Partner of Dorsey & Whitney LLP
Partner in the Labor and Employment group. Practices in the area of Employment litigation emphasizing complex employment litigation and class actions including sexual harassment, race, age, sex and disability discrimination, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets and invasion of privacy.
