Shaking the MoneyTree and Investor Outlook

March 30, 2006

Venture capital and private equity firms enjoyed a particularly strong third quarter fundraising environment according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers, Thomson Venture Economics and National Venture Capital Association. In 2005, LA/Orange County chalked up a 58% increase in investment levels from 2004 and nationwide, 183 funds raised $25.2 billion, the highest yearly total for venture capital firms since 2001 when 309 funds raised $38 billion.

Please join PricewaterhouseCoopers and a panel of renowned venture capitalists for their insights on the Q4 2005 results of the PricewaterhouseCoopers/Venture Economics/National Venture Capital Association MoneyTree Survey and discuss the outlook for 2006. Where are venture capitalists putting their money? Will the life sciences sector continue to dominate as it has for the past nine consecutive quarters? What other sectors will continue to attract funding? What sectors are VCs avoiding and why? Are there sectors that are over-funded? Can an early stage company get funded?

Guest Speaker:

Randy Churchill, Director of Business Development, of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

Investor Panelists:

  • Jay Houlihan, Managing Partner of Innocal Ventures
  • Robert Kibble, Managing Partner of Mission Ventures
  • Mike Stuhley, Vice President of Tech Coast Angels Orange County
