2002 Software Industry Award Criteria

The Software Council of Southern California will be recognizing the highest achievers in the Southern California Software industry -- one of the most promising growth industries of the region. The eighth annual Software Industry Awards will honor those deserving individuals who have been instrumental in making Southern California a center for software innovation and entrepreneurism. Nominees need not be members of the Software Council of Southern California.

2002 Southern California Software CEO of the Year Award:
This award will be presented to the Software Company CEO who best meets the following criteria: Head of a software company headquartered in Southern California that has been in operation at least three years, and whose company receives high ratings in the following categories:

  • Sales Growth
  • Job Creation in Southern California
  • Profitability
  • Return-on-Equity
  • New Products and/or Product Upgrade Releases
  • Innovative Technology Applications

Special consideration will be given to individuals who demonstrate leadership in industry related issues through visible involvement with:

  • Industry Trade Organizations
  • Legislative Activities Pertinent to the Software Industry
  • Other Civic, Community Involvement

(Scores will be assessed and weighted based on relative comparison with other applicants)

2002 Southern California Software Entrepreneur of the Year Award:
This award will be presented to the software entrepreneur who best meets the following criteria: Head of a software company headquartered in Southern California that has been in operation less than three years, and whose company receives high ratings in the following categories:

  • Sales/Revenue Growth
  • Team Building
  • Job Creation in Southern California
  • Innovative Products and/or Product Upgrade Releases
  • Product Visibility/Marketing Innovation
  • Creative Financing of the business
  • Industry Trade Organizations
  • Legislative Activities Pertinent to the Software Industry
  • Other Civic, Community Involvement

(Scores will be assessed and weighted based on relative comparison with other applicants)

2002 Southern California Software Developer of the Year Award:
This award will be presented to the software company employee and/or minor shareholder of a Southern California-based software company who best meets the following criteria:
Responsible for the development of a new product (introduced since January 1, 1999) that is rated the highest in the following categories:

  • Units sold
  • Innovation
  • Functionality/Ease of Use

A sample disk copy of the product (if applicable) must be mailed to the Software Council of Southern California to be evaluated by the awards team judges.

2002 Southern California Interactive Content Company of the Year:
This award will be presented to the multimedia company that best meets the following criteria: Headquartered in Southern California, that has been in operation more than three years, and whose company receives high ratings in the following categories:

  • Sales/Revenue Growth
  • Team Building
  • Job Creation in Southern California
  • Innovative Products and/or Product Upgrade Releases
  • Product Visibility/Marketing Innovation
  • Creative Financing of the business
  • Industry Trade Organizations
  • Legislative Activities Pertinent to the Multimedia Industry
  • Other Civic, Community Involvement

(Scores will be assessed and weighted based on relative comparison with other applicants)

General Rules and Guidelines:
Employees or immediate family members of employees, independent contractors with, or members of the Software Council of Southern California Board of Directors or Executive Committee are ineligible to participate as award candidates.
